Our History - We've come a long way since 1970

The Ronan Agency, Inc., a New Jersey Corporation, has a long tradition of providing insurance programs and financial services to New Jersey residents and businesses.  An independent insurance agency, the firm represents more than 15 insurance companies to assist clients needing personal insurance, commercial insurance, bonds and financial services.


The agency was formed in August, 1970 by Kenneth F. and Therese Ronan.  Ken Ronan had worked for Prudential Insurance Companies for 10 years and Therese had worked for an insurance broker. The office was located at 3003C Route 88 in Point Pleasant. With hard work and dedication, the business grew and the first part time employee was hired in order that the two agency owners could concentrate on expanding the business through sales of new policies.

Jeanne M. Heisler joined the agency in March, 1972 and became an owner and officer in 1976. The agency had steady growth and began to departmentalize in order to meet the needs of its clients on a continued basis.

In 1979, the first "automated" equipment was purchased for the agency. A 55 pound memory typewriter called an Exxon Qyx enabled the agency to write and save 30 documents for retrieval at a later time but with no visual display..

As the agency volume increased, so did the need for additional space. In 1981, the agency owners purchased an office building at 5 Princeton Avenue, Brick. A historic property on the Laurelton Circle, it served the needs of the agency for several years.

In 1983, Denise Ronan joined the agency after working for both the state of New Jersey and Continental Data Systems. That year, the agency added its first main-frame mini computer and began automating all operations including full word processing, accounting and insurance client and policy data information. Shortly thereafter, rating computer programs were added in order to quickly provide quotations for insurance on new and renewal business.

In 1987, the agency found it required additional space for the organization. A move to a new office building in Lions Head Office Park took place. The one story office was designed by the agency owners to provide for a work environment that would expand opportunities for the firm.

In 1988, Denise Ronan became an agency owner and officer. At that time, the agency expanded it's operations by assigning duties within departments.

During 1989, a concentrated effort was placed on the development of a customized computer system to best serve the future needs of the agency staff in providing superior customer service promptly and accurately. The computer system continues to be expanded as automation equipment and program availability changes.

In 1990, Marie Ryan was promoted to the position of Vice President and became a member of the management team for the agency.  The Management Team leads the agency in planning for the future to be able to serve our clients with innovative products and services. 

In 1993, under the perpetuation plan designed by the owners, Kenneth Ronan became Chairman of the Board, Jeanne Heisler became President and Denise Ronan added Sec/Treas to her title of Sen. VP Operations. Therese Ronan continued to hold the position of Sen. VP.

The opportunity arose early in 1994 for the agency to acquire the insurance policies of the Frank Mc Hugh Agency, Inc. in New Egypt. A long term agency in the western Ocean County town, the acquisition permitted the agency to expand its marketing base into the western section of the state. The agency continues the branch office in that town which permits the agency to continue to serve the existing and new clients of that area. That office is electronically connected to the main office through a long-distance, 24 hr per day leased line and actively participates in the same automated data base system.

In 1995, Tracy Taylor, employed by the agency since 1979, was promoted to Vice President and became a member of the management team.

During 1998, the agency developed a more formal planning process consisting of an 8 member planning team.  Meeting monthly, the team works to create and monitor a business plan to assure that the agency efforts are consistent with its mission. Superior Customer Service, Continued Business Development, Advanced Technology and Staff Training are essential goals of the agency.

The agency has been named a Best Practices Agency by the Independent Insurance Agents of America & Reagan & Associates for 1998-2001.   The agency is proud to have received this recognition as one of the top 30 agencies nationwide in its revenue class based on service standards, technology use and account development.

In April 1999, we lost Co-Founder and Senior Vice President, Therese Ronan, after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer.  She worked until just weeks before her death, and her vision & encouragement will provide the agency staff members with the technical and professional expertise to further expand the agency operations in the future. 

In September 1999, we implemented a 24 hour emergency service to assist our clients with claims and other emergencies evenings, nights and weekends.  Agency management services "on-call" and is paged whenever anyone calls either of our offices and selects the emergency voice mail box.

A new building for our Brick Office was completed in November 1999 at 241 Brick Boulevard, Brick, NJ.  The new location offers us the opportunity to implement many advanced technology solutions to provide our clients with enhancements to service.  The office is located on the main thoroughfare in Brick giving our clients easy access to stop in to discuss their coverage, make premium payments or just say hello.

In August 2000, the agency began it's first secure, client only access section to our website, one of the first independent agencies to do so. 

In October 2001, the agency joined the new Trusted Choice Program developed by our trade association, the Independent Insurance Agents of America.  As one of the charter members of Trusted Choice, the agency subscribes to a Pledge of Performance to provide superior customer service to our clients.  

In 2005, the agency implemented individual access for our clients to review their policy and account information and to report claims.  Our Client Center is accessible through this website. 



Our Agency Works For You!

Customer Service - Our staff handles accounts on a rotational servicing basis.  All of our records are  maintained electronically and any customer service staff member should be able to assist you at any time.

Underwriting - We'll work with you to obtain information necessary to provide an accurate quotation.  We'll also do your physical damage inspections and property photos.

Claims Handling - We can assist you at the time of a claim.  In addition to our 24/7 emergency claims service.  We will work with you to resolve your claim in a satisfactory manner.

Technology - Our staff can quickly access both our database and several company databases to obtain the information that you need quickly, effectively and accurately.
